贅を極めたスイートルームで過ごす、スモールラグジュアリー空間

　ニュージーランド南島にあるオタゴ地方、ワカティプ湖に面するクイーンズタウンは、その周囲の山々に囲まれた美しい光景が「ヴィクトリア女王（クイーン）にふさわしい」と名づけられたことに由来している。1862年、ショットオーバー川で金が発見後、ゴールドラッシュに沸いて、発展した町である。
　現在は、高原の避暑地のような佇まいから、世界的に有数なリゾート地として発展している。クイーンズタウンは、バンジージャンプ発祥の地としても知られ、夏にはバンジージャンプやパラグライダー、ゴルフ、湖でのジェットボート、釣りなどが楽しめ、冬には周囲のコロネット・ピーク (Cornet Peak) やリマーカブルズといったスキー場でスキー・スノーボード、蒸気船での観光、カジノでのギャンブル、食事などを楽しむこともできる。人口1万足らずのこの地に、年間およそ130万もの観光客が訪れるのも、素晴らしい景観、豊富なアクティブティなど、リゾート地で癒される空間を求めてやってくるからだろう。
